WANAMEME RECOGNIZED BY STATE
The family of Bukusu worrior Elijah Wanameme ,Dini ya musambwa,Bukusubcouncil of Elders ,musicians and locals were privileged to be hosted at the Bukusu Cultural Centre-Kamukuywa,Kimilili constituency Bungoma county, for the 61st Mashujaa day to honour their legend freedom fighter Elijah Wanameme.

This comes after the late Elijah Wanameme was recently honoured by HE Dr.William Ruto-President, as a Kenyan hero who contributed much towards achieving the independence.
Speaking to a local radio station,the three Wanameme's surviving wives led by Elizabeth Nakhumicha, among six,say since the death of the warrior,the family has been unstable in their endeavours including raising up of children despite the name of Wanameme having been spread all over.
"We have cried a lot on matters in Elijah's family since our young age to date we have been always asking help from the government because he fought for Africans most of the time he was being jailed because of colonial resistance that's why the family remained unstable", a cry from one of Elijah's wife Gladys Masinde.

The family of the freedom fighter Wanameme-Prophet (died 1987) appeals for support from the government in matters relating to daily upkeeps for it says despite the wide name of Wanameme,nothing in their hands as a family to be proud of.

Prof.Wanjala Kerre,centre's CEO and the Bukusu council of Elders Chairperson-Kimilili sub county, says the culture centre was established to create a know how of what was being done by ancestors,study of Bukusu language and understanding the culture .
The BUCOE Kimilili chair,attributes being much pleased by the action of President William Ruto for recognising Wanameme as a pillar who played a bigger role to make Kenya independent.
Recently, the family of the late Elijah wanameme led by his three wives had a privilege to get a certificate of recognition from HE Dr.William Ruto ,courtesy of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Prof.Kerre.
